The Prithviraj Smarak, located on Kundeti Hill, Taragarh Road, is a grand monument dedicated to the mighty 12th-century king Prithviraj Chauhan. This monument is a symbol of the valour, bravery and sacrifice of this great warrior of the Chauhan dynasty.
Prithviraj Chauhan, also known as Prithviraj III, ascended the throne of Ajmer in 1177 AD and later ruled Delhi.
In 1191 AD, he formed a confederacy of Rajputs and defeated the army of Mohammad Ghori in the First Battle of Tarain. However, he was defeated and martyred in the Second Battle of Tarain in 1192 AD. His statue on a horse in the memorial, with one leg raised, is considered a symbol of valour and martyrdom.
