Located just a few kilometres from Ajmer city, Foy Sagar Lake (now recently renamed as "Varun Sagar") is a serene artificial lake nestled between the Aravalli Hills. Built in 1892 by British engineer Mr Foy under a famine relief project, the lake is today famous for its beautiful natural scenery, migratory birds and tranquil atmosphere.
Constructed to overcome the severe water crisis, the lake is spread over about 1.3 million square meters and is still an important part of the green belt around Ajmer. It is a rare example of colonial water management, a unique amalgamation of utility and natural beauty.
Popular place for picnics and walks between October to March. Amazing sunrise and sunset views with glimpses of the Aravalli Hills. Shops selling local snacks and Rajasthani handicrafts along the lake. Opportunity to see migratory birds in winter. Recently, it has been officially renamed as "Varun Sagar".
Opening Time: 6:00 AM. Closing Time: 7:00 PM. Note: At times, the lake is open 24 hours, but timings may be limited due to weather and maintenance.
