Watching over the Pink City of Jaipur from the heights of the Aravalli Hills, Nahargarh Fort is famous for its historical heritage and natural beauty. Built in 1734 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, "Nahargarh" means Abode of Tigers. Along with Amer Fort and Jaigarh Fort, it formed a defensive ring around Jaipur. Today, this fort is a centre of attraction for tourists due to its grandeur, majestic architecture and breathtaking views.
Nahargarh Fort was originally constructed for defence, but was rarely used in wars. A fascinating story is linked to Rathore prince Nahar Singh Bhomiya, whose spirit was believed to haunt the site. To pacify him, a temple was built in his name inside the fort. Later, Sawai Madho Singh constructed Madhavendra Bhawan, a palace with mural-decorated halls and suites for the king and his queens.
